March 18, 2006
Pathaka is the Malayalam movie in progress starring Renuka Menon and Navya Nair. To scotch the unconfirmed rumours that “pathakas” (crackers and fireworks) broke out on the sets of Pathaka in the form of the leading ladies Renuka Menon and Navya Nair fighting on the sets of Pathaka, we contacted Renuka Menon who kindly laid these rumours to rest, mentioning them as “baseless gossip by rumour-mongers who have nothing better to do.” She added that she and Navya Nair are close and cordial friends. and me are good friends. We act together in Pathaka. She also said that she is happy to act in Tamil movies also, but will be more selective of her roles and banners in future, rather than working with debutant directors, who are unable to create hits. Remember Radha, sister of Ambika, the Bharatiraja discovery who excelled in all south language films and was a famous star like her sister, got married at the peak of her career. While sister Ambika returned to acting after marriage, Radha found bliss in her marital life, kept herself busy looking after her husband’s hotel in Mumbai and mothering her three children. Now about a decade later, she has made her first public appearance as a Bharathnatyam performer at a temple function at Chidambaram accompanied by her daughter. Her gorgeous slim looks have generated speculation that she is all set to make her come-back to films shortly. It is understood that she is open to suitable offers for roles in the cine field again for her second innings. Meera, a boy!
March 4, 2006
Rasathantram by director Sathyan Anthikkad brings Mohanlal and Meera Jasmine together for the first time. The USP is Meera dresses as a servant boy and play’s a boy’s role in the first half! Meera is Kanmani, a servant girl, but to protect her virtue, she disguises herself as Velayudhan Kutty. Mohanlal plays a carpenter Premachandran Asari with a terrific sense of humour. The film has been shot in the beautiful locales of Moolamattum in Idukki district of Kerala, and is almost complete. Sathyan and Mohanlal, who have done nearly 20 films together, are back after 12 years. Meera says she enjoyed doing the role of Velayudhan Kutty and during the shoot, felt like a boy, easily managing the body language and mannerisms of a boy correctly. Sathyan Anthikkad says Rasathantram is a serious family drama with an undercurrent of comedy and fun. Ilayaraja scores music for this film which releases on April 14, Vishu. |
